Our Shrine - Part Two

The brief:

We were asked to make 7 badges of our passions in the style of 'I heart NY'.

I've done more as I think badges are great! Also my Husband and Mom were a bit upset I didn't have them in my passion's presentation, so I though these will make up for it.

I know there is one that is blank, no it's not some stuffy attempt at an artistic oxymoron, I couldn't find a good image of a Lola's cupcake. So what better excuse then I need to buy one to photograph for this project. I'm getting one tomorrow and I should have it eaten... erm, I mean done by the evening.

Here is the final badge - I went to Selfridges and bought a really cute Lola's vanilla cupcake with pink icing and little pink hearts to go with the 'I heart' theme. It was very yummy by the way!

Our Shrine - Part One

The brief:

We had to do a presentation on our passions in groups of three - which was Olivia, Jon and myself.

The easy bit was choosing my passions, the hard bit was trying to edit them down. I still felt after the presentation that I could have edited it a bit more or maybe only spoke about my main 3 passions.

Which are:

Lola's cupcakes - Don't need to say anymore then Mmmmmmmmmmm!

The colour Black (Although my husband would and does argue that black is a shade not a colour). I got this great card from my friends this year for my Birthday and it says it all really!

And Skulls - Pretty much any skull really, but I listed a few of my favourites.

This is my ever growing skull collection.

I kept having to retake the picture as I would keep finding some more things with skulls on. I still forgot to put in the 5 resin pirate skulls my husband and I won (Won being - I spent about 10 pounds on the 2p pusher machines in a seaside arcade hall in Norfolk).

In my presentation I also mentioned:

Christian Louboutin, I think the man is a genius and although the red soles were by chance his shoe designs are just magical, like little sculptures for feet.

Robert Indiana's Love Sculpture - I was lucky enough to go see one of his statues this year in New York on Sixth Avenue.

Don Ed Hardy, retired American tattoo artist who now does paintings and prints of his work. He did some designs for t-shirts and other clothing a couple of years ago. Now his work can be seen on anything from sunglasses, perfume to lighters.

Alexander Henry Fabrics, an American fabric design company. My favourite designs from them are their 'Retro style' pin ups, skulls (of course) and Japanese Dragons.

What do you do with 3 newspapers and an orange?

We took over the red room at college and Nigel set us a project: To build the tallest structure, that could hold an orange, using 3 newspapers.

I was teamed up with Christian and Dan. We had such grand ideas and spent most of our time planning it that we ended up having very little time to make the structure.

We decided to just concentrate on height and forgot about all our planning. In the end our structure (one long thin tube of newspaper) collapsed. So we ended up with a really small, maybe knee height structure - but it did indeed hold an orange.

I wanted my logo to evoke childhood memories of play, so I was happy when Nigel and Paul touched on the 'paper people chain' idea and I wanted to explore it further.

I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with the logo - I'm going to re-vist this project, if possible, before my assessment in a couple of weeks time. I've still to get feedback from Nigel and Paul, so i'll work on it again soon, hopefully!

Freecycle - Interaction

The brief:

Emma, Sofia and I decided on a Freecycle swap shop in order to interact with people. Working with the idea of treats and rewards for interaction, we asked people if they wanted to swap something with us and tell us a story about the items they were swapping. We had a few curios, a scarf a couple of candles, a can of Pringles, a bag of Jelly Babies, a pack of Jammie Dodgers and some Rolo cookies. The food items were very successful items to swap. (My mom is really upset we didn't get rid of the Massai Warrior or the Three Monkeys! She's been trying to get rid of them for almost a year now).

A sheet of paper = 325 high fives!

The brief:

Emma, Sofia and I decided to go to Pimlico Tube station to see how many people would give us a high five. There were 325 satisfied customers by the time we were done, and i'm sure we amused a few more people even if they were not brave enough to do it.

We were asked to move on by one of the station workers - I managed to get him to agree to let us stay for five more minutes and he even gave us a high five as he went up the escalator! Legend!

Chelsea College of Art and Design Presents... The 'F' Factor!

Calm your dirty minds the F in 'F' Factor stands for fonts. We had to choose a font (random pick) and write, sing and perform the song in an X Factor style competition.

Our group was Andrew (AJ), Cornelia, Veronica and myself.

Our font was Arial, sung to the tune of 'The lion sleeps tonight' (In the jungle). Thankfully I don't have the video to show you but here are the lyrics:
